PLEASE NOTE! Regardless of whether you are entering the photo contest by paying via PAYPAL or by international money order/cheque, we need you to download, print and fill in the following Entry Form. This has to be sent to us as an attachment to the email with your pictures, or together with the international money order/cheque if you are using regular mail to send us your material. Use the PAYPAL section of this Entry Form by providing the same PAYPAL account you used for your payment or by providing your credit card holder NAME as written on card.

RULES AND CONDITIONS
THE COMPETITION
A portion of the funds collected from sales of artists' works and otherwise at exhibitions will support PANGEA ONLUS, a non-profit organization actively providing and giving assistance to women in need in Afghanistan through PROJECT JAMILA.
The work of the participants selected by THE GALLERY ART & DESIGN will be submitted to a jury of leading international gallery owners, academics and artists and a collective exhibition of 50 selected finalist photographs in the Competition will be held at:
- Capital One Corporate Gallery, Richmond VA, July-August 2009
- Artspace, Richmond VA, October 2009
- Kkien Atelier, Milan, Italy, November-December 2009
In addition, the five prize-winning images will be on display during the 2010 MIART, International Contemporary Art Fair, Milan, Italy
THEME
"Emotions, Dreams and Thoughts of Humanity"
DETAILS
Open to all photographers 18 years and older. Any form of photographic medium, black and white, color, non-silver, computer-manipulated, etc., is eligible. Artists should feel free to interpret this year’s theme in the broadest sense to allow full range of their creativity.

PRIZES/COMPENSATION
- 1st prize of the Competition will receive US$ 1,250.00
- 2nd prize of the Competition will receive US$ 900.00

Two honorable mentions will be chosen from the remaining finalist photographs (NO CASH PRIZES)
ENTRY FEE
A non-refundable entry fee of US$ 40.00 ( + US$ 2.00taxes) for a total of US$ 42.00 entitles each artist to submit up to 3 photographs.
METHOD OF PAYMENT:
Each artist can subscribe either via:
- A valid paypal account
- A valid credit card, all major credit cards (AMEX, VISA, MASTERCARD) are supported by paying the entry fee via paypal (www.paypal.com) to the following seller account: info@the-gallery.it
- by International money order/cheque drawn on a US bank made payable to THE GALLERY ART & DESIGN
HOW TO SUBMIT
Only Digital Submissions will be accepted jpeg /tiff
EMAIL SUBMISSIONS:
- Each photo file should be 900pixels in the longest dimension saved in the JPEG format on high quality setting (not maximum). Images should be sampled at 72ppi.
- Label each file with consecutive numbers followed by artist’s name. I.e. 1SamJones, 2SamJones, etc. Do not use spaces in the title of the JPEG (use underscores if needed) and limit to only alpha-numeric characters (do not use :.:’”/?}{()[ ]+-=*&^%$#@!.).
In the body of an email, number each image so that it matches the above numbering system. For each image provide the title, process and physical dimensions. Complete and submit electronic versions of Entry Form, ensuring that numbers and titles on the form match those provided by email. Email files to : photocontest09@colorsoflife.org
BY MAIL CD SUBMISSION:
- Each photo file should be 900 pixels in the longest dimension saved in the JPEG format on high quality setting (not maximum). Images should be sampled at 72 ppi.
- Label each file with consecutive numbers followed by the artist’s name. I.e. 1CindyJones, 2CindyJones, etc.
- In a separate document, for each image provide the title, process and physical dimensions.
- Enclose an self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of the CD. CDs submitted without such an envelope will not be returned.
- Complete the Entry Form, ensuring that numbers and titles on the form match those on the CD. Mail payment, CD, entry form and self-addressed stamped envelope for return of the CD to the address below.

JURY REVIEW AND SELECTION
Selected pictures will be submitted to a leading panel of jurors for the final selection of first, second and third prizes and two honorable mentions.
Jury members include:
- Jean Blanchaert - Collector and gallery owner, Milan, Italy.
- Andrea Ceriani - CEO Kkien Enterprise Milan, Italy.
- Chan Chao, Photographer, Washington DC.
- Philippe Daverio - Art critic, Milan Italy.
- Elena Ehrenwald - Prize-winning Mexican photographer.
- Rosa del Tepeyac Flores- Former Secretary of Culture, Coauhila, Mexico.
- George Hemphill - Collector and gallery owner, Washington DC.
- Yvonne Humphries - Prize-winning British photographer.
- Dean Kessmann, Photographer, Professor of Photography, George Washington University, Washington DC.
NOTIFICATIONS
Jury review and voting will be completed by May 30, 2009. Finalists will be notified by an official letter and e-mail.
WORK FROM SELECTED FINALISTS
Finalists' selected archival prints must be received together with a CV/resume and a brief description of the artist's work in a CD/DVD and suggested market price, by no later than June 15, 2009.
The maximum dimension of an archival-framed print should not exceed 40 inches (100 cm) in any direction.
Selected work must be mounted in a black metal frame, white museum mat (if matted), plexiglass only, and ready to hang.
WORK WHICH DOES NOT MEET THE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS FOR EXHIBITION WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

RETURNS POLICY
Shipped work must be sent in a re-usable container, as this container will be used to return any unsold work. Work must be securely packed, with identification tags attached to the back of the work and with return shipping label enclosed. A street address must be used for returning shipping purposes.
A UPS pre-paid return shipping waybill must be enclosed with the shipped work.
WORK THAT DOES NOT MEET THE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS WILL NOT BE RETURNED. WORK THAT ARRIVES DAMAGED OR WHICH DOES NOT MEET THE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS FOR EXHIBITION WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. NO SELECTED WORK MAY BE WITHDRAWN ONCE SUBMITTED.
THE GALLERY ART & DESIGN will cover the transportation costs of shipping the 50 finalist photographs to and from the 3 exhibitions that will take place.
All reasonable care will be taken in handling all entries. THE GALLERY ART & DESIGN CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR LOSS OR DAMAGE. Artists desiring to insure their work must make their own arrangements. THE GALLERY ART & DESIGN reserves the right to reproduce accepted work in connection with contest promotion.
Artists retain all other rights. Submission of an entry to this competition implies acceptance of all conditions stated in these rules.
Artists will receive 50% of their suggested market price if their work is sold. Payments to the artists will be made within 30 days after receipt of proceeds from sales. Substantially all of the remaining proceeds from sales will be used to support PANGEA ONLUS.
MEDIA COVERAGE
THE GALLERY ART & DESIGN has arranged with leading American and Italian professionals to provide media coverage for the entire Competition, the opening receptions and the collective exhibitions in order to provide suitable promotion and publicity for participating artists.
